Goblin Girls

by C.S.E. Cooney

It's night again
And here they come
A-trip a-trap, three goblin girls
A-trekking 'cross the river stones
A cackle-heckle-hey

She's big, she's tall, she's small, she's gray
She's green and slime and rainbows-o
And one bears fruit so poisoned plump
And one a changeling baby-o

Don't breathe too deep, don't scream too loud
Or shout or sing or holler hell
They'll give to you a golden ring
And clasp around your neck a bell

My sister, she went off one night
To linger with her goblin love
And back she came, so white and strange
Her life never alive enough

Dee deedle dum
The goblin girls
Three traipsing waifs
Three grinning wraiths
Dee deedle dum
My goblin girls...

A crown of wasps
A cape of moths
Dee deedle dum
O goblin girls
I'll follow where you lead me-o
It's night again
And here they come
A-trip a-trap, three goblin girls
A-trekking 'cross the river stones
A cackle-heckle-hey

C.S.E. Cooney lives in a garret with no pets but the occasional stray bolt of a lightning. Her story "Three Fancies from the Infernal Garden" can be found in the Winter Issue of Subterranean Online. Her favorite weather is a dust storm blowing up through the Sonora, when the air turns amber, and there are such winds.

Rebecca (Bek) Huston is a shameless banana junkie. She tattoos at Heathen Ink in Summit as well as painting, drawing, sculpting, playing with fire and crocheting. Check out more of her artwork at www.tattooheathen.com.
