Great of Magic

by Ann K. Schwader

Isis,
faithful sister,
mourning widow, seeker,
sails above this bleeding land on
kite's wings

coffin
cut to measure:
Set's malicious secret
vanished into river, into
silence

spied out,
safely hidden,
seized anew & scattered . . .
Osiris's remains refused
justice

gentle
enchantment crafts
whole form of righteousness,
conjuring the missing means of
union

up from
these slaughtered scraps
sun falcon / sister's son
flies from death to bring her brother's
vengeance.

Ann K. Schwader lives with her husband and one severely spoiled Pembroke Welsh Corgi in suburban Colorado. She also lives with far too many plants and even more books on H.P. Lovecraft, Egyptology, and other esoteric subjects. Her work has appeared in Strange Horizons, Star*Line, Tales of the Unanticipated, and elsewhere in the speculative press, and has received several Honorable Mentions in Year's Best Fantasy & Horror. In her spare time, she volunteers at her local branch library, where she is sometimes mistaken for normal. Her favorite fruit is homegrown, fresh-picked raspberries. On Cheerios.
