A Mind Full of Stars

by Bridget Kelley-Lossada

The desert cools for me --

I want to bathe in the delta silt
until I am the river
sparkling with stolen gold.

They have become like their god
fearful of a single woman --

masquerading as sons of heaven

I feel their violence
thickening --

an oyster is broken open.
