The Monkey's Eye

by Marlo Dianne

The Monkey's Eye
Is steeped in rum
Um-hmm, um-hmm

The Monkey's Eye
Is steeped in rum
As it were in the cranium
Um-hmm, um-hmm

The Monkey's Eye
It drips in two
Um-hmm, um-hmm

The Monkey's Eye
It drips in two
Eyed by Lyla for the morning stew
Um-hmm, um-hmm

The Monkey's Eye
It rolls so red
Um-hmm, um-hmm

The Monkey's Eye
It rolls so red
Touch it twice and you'll be dead
Um-hmm, um-hmm

The Monkey's Eye
Falls to the boards
Um-hmm, um-hmm

The Monkey's Eye
Falls to the boards
And blows away the rusted fjords
Um-hmm, um-hmm

The Monkey's Eye
It fevers well
Um-hmm, um-hmm

The Monkey's Eye
It fevers well
And down go the ships at the coastal bell
Um-hmm, um-hmm

The Monkey's Eye
It holds one sight
Um-hmm, um-hmm

The Monkey's Eye
It holds one sight
Of souls devoured to the night

Marlo Dianne lives on the ocean.

Always weird, Marlo's published work includes novellas, short stories, flash fiction, art, and poetry. Among recent appearances are oddities in Bound is the Bewitching Lilith, Tales of the Talisman, and All Possible Worlds. A photographer, podcaster, and public domain junkie, this writer, artist, and wondergeek is found at Forbidden Dragon.

As for a favourite fruit, Marlo refused to provide a single favourite anything, even when pressed until juice squirted out the ears. A quick search of the fridge for current seedy suspects found: red delicious and granny smith apples, highbush blueberries, crimson strawberries, and, of course, pumpkins.

Other suspects fled on foot.
